A little about me:

Hi, my name is Gail. I like to put up sites on topics that are close to my heart or a related to a particular interest. Diabetes has become an epidemic in North America and other developed countries. Certain members of my family have the condition and it is a real worry sometimes. I hope to find more resources to help persons with diabetes live a healthier life, or even to prevent diabetes altogether.

In the long term, something I'd like to do is to enhance the quality of life for certain segments of my community. With my own mother living in a retirement home, I've seen firsthand how bored, lonely and isolated some seniors can be. Don't get me wrong, I think that many of these residences are pleasant and well-run. They are often the best option when you need to balance personal care needs with a degree of independence.

However, many of the residents have physical and mental deficits that make it impossible for them to go out by themselves. They rely on the activities run by the home, but most homes have pretty limited in-house activity options. Well, wouldn't it be neat to run a service that provides additional entertainment and companionship to brighten up these seniors' days?

Concerts, dancing, magic shows, and other fun events would make a nice break in the routine and give residents something to look forward to. I can't think of too many more rewarding things than making someone smile and laugh, can you?
